COLUMBUS — When the time came for Congressman Mike Turner to stand up to Donald Trump and vote to condemn Trump’s racist tweets attacking his fellow members of Congress, Turner voted no and stood with Trump.

“Donald Trump attacked four Congresswomen, who are also women of color, with a clearly racist message, and the best Mike Turner could do was offer a lame tweet about how we must ‘rise above hate,’” said Ohio Democratic Party Chairman David Pepper. “But when the U.S. House of Representatives held a vote to condemn Trump’s racist attacks, Turner voted no. He had the opportunity to hold Trump accountable, but instead he chose to enable Trump.”

“These sorts of political games are exactly why Ohioans can’t trust Mike Turner,” said Ohio Democratic Party Vice Chairwoman Rhine McLin. “Turner will say one thing, but then he’ll turn right around and vote the other way when he’s in Washington.”

Turner’s record of failing to stand up to racism also includes his failure to condemn state Sen. Steve Huffman’s offensive comments, his 2019 vote against closing the Charleston loophole and his vote last week against the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.
